Mary Jane Queen - bluegrass in the Blue Ridge

Christopher and I are visiting family while we are down in the Carolinas for Jane & J.E.B.'s wedding this Saturday. The day after we get here, my mom had a project for me. :-) Visit Mary Jane Queen, a 91 year old woman, out in Jackson County, North Carolina up on Caney Fork Road- near where our family has lived for nearly 8 generations- and capture her family clan picking on her porch... Bluegrass in the Blue Ridge Mountains! (This is part of my mom's project for her graduate work in Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University, and some of these images will be featured in their museum sometime this year). We had a blast with this family- very talented musicians!

About Us

With all the crazy busyness this fall has been, I have neglected our "about us" part of our new site. I have received many comments about the shots of us we have up, but they are almost 2 years old as they were taken by a friend for our "engagement pictures." So... I was briefly going through some of the images we have of us today... Unfortunately, most of the shots we have are either family/friends posed shots (zzzzzzz), BUT Chris and I kind of play photo-tag at events. Maybe once per event or every other event, we will try to capture eachother in action. So, I just thought I would share some of these - even though I am probably sweating in most of them.

Note to potential clients: Chris and I cannot afford to have both of us full-time in wedding photography YET, so be advised that if you hire Rae Barnes Photography, you are only contracted with Rae Barnes- if Chris is available, he is a free bonus! ;-)

Jeannie & Jason - Engagement

Yesterday, Jeannie, Jason, and I braved the rain and cold to do their engagement shoot at her family's cabin. Despite the cold, I really enjoyed hanging out with this couple; they were so natural together that I didn't feel like I needed to give them any direction! What a happy couple. I can't wait for the big day next September! Thank you guys!

Fall Hike on Baker Mountain

Chris, Baxter, and I went on a hike last week up Baker Mountain. Baxter just quit at the top, but Chris and I had a great time! One of these shots is of me shooting into Chris' camera that ended up being a self portrait. We love the fall! And, it was great to finally take a lazy day after not having a single day off in almost two weeks.

Rebekah's First Year- 9 months

Session five out of six with Rebekah (including the pregnancy): it is hard to believe that baby Rebekah is already nine months old- time flies! Our next and last session for her first year sessions will be in less than 3 months for her first birthday. No surprise here that she is still a ham, even while she is carving away at those new teeth! I managed to grab a few good shots in between her sweet tears.

Andrea & Dan - Whiteface Club & Resort

Congratulations to Annie & Dan! On Saturday, Chris and I had the pleasure of spending the full day (12 hours) with Annie and Dan celebrating their new marriage. It was such a beautiful day with beautiful, friendly people. The day just flew by for us, and we could not be more grateful to the families of both the bride and groom for such wonderful comments and treatment. We would do it all again for anyone there at the wedding! Their ceremony was held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid with reception at the Whiteface Club & Resort. Congrats to the new husband and wife team!

Libby & Carl - Perthsire of Perth

Congratulations to Libby & Carl on their new marriage! They were married on Friday, October 6th at Perthshire in Amsterdam, NY (just 30 miles west of Saratoga Springs). The weather could not have been more perfect! I really enjoyed shooting this wedding, as I always enjoy seeing new places around the North Country. Libby and Carl were so happy! And, look at those piercing blue eyes that Libby has! Wow! Congrats to you both!

Baxter's 1st Birthday!

Today was Baxter's very first birthday and boy did we celebrate. He started off the day with a gourmet breakfast of Price Chopper canned dog food, followed by a long day of napping. After his Cesar canned dog food dinner, he topped off the day with a bone from Rae and I that was easily as big as he was when we first got him. It was a very festive day for all of us.

Ann Marie & Rob - Bolton Landing, NY

Wow! Busy weekend... we left early Sunday morning to get down to Bolton Landing on Lake George for Ann Marie and Rob's wedding. We were so excited- not only because we had such a fun time with them at their engagement but because we had shot her sister Beth's wedding back in May, and we were so excited to see the whole gang again! (this time without any ambulances) Well, it was a downpoor on Sunday, flooding Porter's Cottages... so, this was-going-to-be outside but might-be-tent wedding ended up all indoors at the Lakeside Lodge & Grill. And, it was still beautiful! The rain stopped long enough to get some shots by the lake, and Ann Marie did all of her floral arrangements, which totally knocked our socks off! It was all around a really wonderful day (in spite of the rain)! Thanks guys!
